President’s Welcome 2025

Hello and welcome to (or back to) The University of Sydney! It's a pleasure to have you on board with us as the official faculty society for the Arts and Social Sciences. The Arts are embedded in critical thinking, culture, and innovation; skills which help us develop a more meaningful understanding of the world around us. Our subjects remain an integral part of university studies, and we as the Sydney Arts Students Society endeavour to advocate for our value.

My name is Layla, and as President of the Sydney Arts Students Society (SASS), I’m excited for you to join our vibrant and flourishing community. With many social events, artsy initiatives, and networking nights planned, I’m certain you’ll be able to meet like minded people and find your crowd. Our overall aim at SASS is to provide accessible events that cover all aspects of being an Arts student, from the fun and fabulous, to the analytical and astute.

Some major events include our First Year Camp, the potential to contribute to our three major journals, and our Annual Ball in semester two. We focus on elevating Arts students to better connect with our community inside and outside of academia, and to make student life inclusive and accessible for all students. Whatever your interests are, we have a place for you!

The Arts is such a broad degree with a vast range of subjects, so sometimes it can be difficult to navigate your studies whilst maintaining a consistent social life. Fortunately, SASS is here to support you across all facets of university life, from your networking endeavours to artsy fun! We will accompany you on your university journey whenever you need it, as we want your academic life to be as enjoyable as possible!

The jump from high school to university is such a drastic change, but it’s filled with numerous opportunities for you to learn and grow as an individual. SASS is here to support you along every step of the way, no matter your background, abilities, or experiences. We cater to all.
